Screen Education Edinburgh has always been passionate about developing new filmmakers and offering a route in for those marginalised, those with no formal education in film, and as a bridge between aspiring independent filmmakers and talent development schemes.
Script to Screen – our scheme running throughout the late 90’s and early 00’s focused on developing new storytelling, production and post production skills of adults resident in Edinburgh’s housing schemes. Streetwise – a high definition short film scheme capturing drama and documentary stories from ‘the streets of Edinburgh’ first taking place in 2006. Take 5 – a shorts scheme supporting the development of new talent across Edinburgh and South East Scotland through commisioning, equipment and post facilities support in order to make a 5 minute film.
Over the years fantastic films have been made and careers ignited. Our films have been nominated for and won BAFTA Awards, screened and won awards at film festivals and alumni have gone off to forge careers in the industry, into further and higher education including three progressing to the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield.
Our latest short film scheme ‘Write Shoot Cut shorts’ has seen 7 new screenwriters from across Edinburgh and Lothians going through recent development, with two films chosen by a judging panel of author and screenwriter Irvine Welsh, Sarah Drummond from LS Productions and our Creative Development Officer Graham Fitzpatrick, that are currently in pre production.
