‘Get Started’ is a core programme for Princes Trust across the UK developing young people facing issues in education or are unemployed, giving key workplace skills such as confidence and motivation, specific practical and creative skills plus career support.
Screen Education Edinburgh partner Princes Trust in running the ‘Get Started in Media’ programme in Edinburgh. This 5 day filmmaking programme offers participants the opportunity to explore all aspects of filmmaking; producing, directing, shooting and editing a film that they have written and acted in. The course involves three days of learning all aspects of filmmaking, one day shooting a short film and one day editing – before screening it to an audience of friends and family during a full day celebration event.
The course is aimed at young people aged 16-25 years who are unemployed or at risk of being unemployed through educational underachievement, homelessness, substance misuse, mental health needs, disability, offending behaviour, educational disengagement. If you are 18-24 you must be working less than 16 hours or in education for less than 12 hours per week.
As well as the practical course participants receive 1-1 support during and after to support them towards employment, courses or training.
