Job description

Screen Education Edinburgh is dedicated to transforming lives through the medium of film. With a special focus on the most disadvantaged communities, we offer a range of accessible and engaging opportunities where young people can develop their knowledge, skills and passion for film and filmmaking whilst fostering confidence, self-esteem, motivation, agency, community and social capital.

Participants are given the opportunity to learn the key aspects of film making, from camera and sound to screenwriting, acting, directing and editing. Young people work towards the overall outcome of developing, filming and editing their very own short film.

This role requires assisting our film tutors and youth workers in the delivery of these film education projects to young people, aged between 12 and 25. Additionally the role will involve assisting the team with productions where required.

  • -The assistant tutor will be responsible for setting up and assisting in the use of film equipment.
  • -Setting up a laptop to projector for the display of film examples and teaching materials.
  • -Taking groups of young people through the basics of operating camera and sound, as well as editing software.
  • -Supporting the youth worker to carry out monitoring and evaluations.
  • -Supporting the youth worker to deliver Arts Awards.
  • -Taking a lead on raising Screen Educations profile through social media
  • -Creating behind the scenes footage of the education programmes.

 

Aims & objectives

Our principal aim is to train young people (5-25) in the art of film, from theory to storytelling skills to technical skills (production and post-production), with an emphasis on looked after young people and young people from areas of economic or social exclusion.

 

Person specification

Experience in using a range of digital cameras and sound equipment.

Competent in the use of professional video editing software, desirably Avid Media Composer.

A basic knowledge of office software such as Word and Excel.

Good communication Skills.

Experience of working as part of a team.

 

PVG/disclosure requirements

Required – Cannot start until successful Disclosure/PVG scheme membership is received.
