BFI FILM ACADEMY SCOTLAND RESIDENTIAL 2016 – APPLICATIONS OPEN!
Applications are now open for young people aged 16-19 from across the UK to attend the BFI Film Academy Scotland Residential 2016, from Tuesday 2nd August to Friday 12th August in Edinburgh.
On this intensive eleven-day course, young people will be given the low down on the world of film, with hands on training, learning key skills in screenwriting, directing, producing, cinematography, sound and editing, alongside advice and master classes. Participants will then collaborate with one another to write, shoot and cut four short films, supported by SEE’s specialised approach to developing young people in film making.
Those taking part will also learn about the wider world of film, from development to finance to festivals, and will be given key advice and support towards a future career in the creative industries.
Young filmmakers taking part will learn from some of the best in the business. Previous guests include:
Producers, directors, actors and technical talent of feature films such as Sunshine on Leith, Under the Skin, The Girl with All the Gifts, Red Road, Outcast, TV dramas such as Peaky Blinders, Sherlock, Doctor Who and Pramface.
Award winning short filmmakers with work screened at Sundance, Berlin, LA, Chicago, London and Edinburgh International Film Festival’s, won BAFTA’s and awards at Leeds and Edinburgh International, and East End Film Festival’s.
Programmers from Edinburgh International Film Festival and Glasgow Short Film Festival, alongside commissioners from Creative Scotland and CH4, and development executives from BFI Net.Work.
This opportunity is targeted at young people who are keen to develop a career in film making and have some experience in filmmaking; you may have attended a BFI Film Academy across the UK Network, be about to start a college course, or be making films independently.
Any young person who has previously attended a BFI Craft Residential or is currently studying at University is not eligible to apply.
There is no charge for this course. We encourage any and all young people keen on this opportunity to apply, no matter your means. Screen Education Edinburgh are committed to supporting and reaching out to young people from diverse backgrounds and providing opportunities for all. Bursaries for travel to and from Edinburgh may be available.
Being a residential course, all food, travel and accommodation whilst in Edinburgh over the eleven days will be provided for.
Jointly funded in Scotland by the British Film Institute and Creative Scotland, the BFI Film Academy aims to help train and inspire the next generation of British filmmakers, supporting talented and committed young people aged 16-19 to develop their commercial and cultural knowledge, and skills to help make a career in film a reality.
